Ультразвуковые датчики уровня применяют для бесконтактного измерения непрерывного и предельного уровня жидких или сыпучих продуктов. Датчик состоит из генератора ультразвукового сигнала, приемного устройства и электронного контроллера. Ультразвуковой датчик работает по принципу радара. Излучаемый ультразвуковой импульс от датчика отражается от поверхности жидкости или сыпучего материала и попадает обратно в датчик. По времени распространения прямого и отраженного сигнала судят об уровне жидкости. В зависимости от области применения, выпускаются датчики уровня с пороговым или аналоговым выходами, . Ультразвуковые датчики компактны, имеют надежную конструкцию, не имеют подвижных частей и практически не нуждаются в обслуживании.
